Resident Evil 7 to premier at E3 2016!!

Great news Resident Evil fans! We will all be getting our first look at the new installment in the franchise at this year’s E3 as promised by CAPCOM. Even better, is the news from developers that the beloved video game franchise will be making a return to its horror roots and straying away from its focus on action. In this writer’s opinion; this is a GOOD thing. Ever since Resident Evil began focusing on action, it hasn’t really felt much like Resident Evil.

The franchise revolutionized the “survival-horror” genre in the video game industry, and was always held as a shining gold standard to everything that genre should aspire to. Although, after the amazing Resident Evil 4; which perfectly mixed survival-horror, and action into one beautiful and memorable package, the developers over at CAPCOM decided to take the action elements of that installment and capitalize on them in the ones to follow.

Resident Evil 4 revitalized the series, and revolutionized 3rd person shooting mechanics. But, it also didn’t forget where it came from and still kept the game tense and scary like Resident Evil should be. But, after this masterpiece, the action part of it became the focus of the franchise.

Thus began the slow decline of Resident Evil. After the lackluster performance of Resident Evil 6; CAPCOM has decided to get the franchise back to what made it such a classic series in the first place, HORROR!!

According to CAPCOM, they have hired game designer Jordan Amaro who worked on the masterpiece that is Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain, and the sadly cancelled Silent Hills demo PT. Not to mention that veteran Resident Evil designers from past titles in the franchise working on the new installment as well.

2016 marks the 20th anniversary of the Resident Evil franchise (Has it really been that long!?! Man, I am getting old!) with a long rumored Resident Evil 2 remake being announced, and three untitled games that CAPCOM have hinted could be Resident Evil in nature; CAPCOM is going full throttle this year for one of its most beloved IPs.

Thank you CAPCOM, you are finally granting the wishes of your fans. 2016 is shaping up to be one hell of a year for gamers everywhere!
