Sigourney Weaver says Alien 5 is happening, its just not coming until after Prometheus 2.

After hearing that Prometheus 2 was in the works, I started to lose hope that the long rumored Alien 5 spearheaded by Neil Blomkamp (District 9, Elysium, and Chappie) might be dead and buried. Apparently, that isn’t so! According to Sigourney Weaver who is supposed to reprise the role of Ripley.

Sigourney had this to say about the project:

“Well, I think it is. Ridley asked Neil not to make our Alien ’til after Prometheus 2.  [Ridley] wanted his movie to shoot and be released first. But it’s an amazing script, and Neil and I are really excited about doing it. We’re doing other things until we can get going on that. I’d be really surprised if we didn’t do it, because it’s such a great script, and we love working together. So, it’s just going to take a little bit longer to get out to you, but it’ll be worth the wait”

Concept art like this have been floating around the internet for some time now and are rumored to be from the production.

News like this gives me hope that we will get to see it at some point. Although after the original Prometheus which had plot holes one could fly the Nostromo through, one might worry as to how a sequel might end up. As Ridley Scott himself says on his commentary of the film, that he is more concerned with keeping the film paced well than it making sense.  This could explain why most of the scenes that fill in those gaping plot holes can be found either as deleted scenes on your copy of the film, or on the cutting room floor as they say. That said, I did enjoy Prometheus, and while I am curious to see where Scott takes the franchise (especially with it now being titled Alien: Covenant) we can hope that it will now have a much deeper connection to the established story.

Alien 5 has long rumored to be a direct sequel to Aliens, that it would ignore everything from Alien 3 on. I know I am not the only fan that would like to see Corporal Hicks (Michael Biehn) make a return.

While this news is promising, we will still just have to wait and see what happens. If what Sigourney Weaver herself says is correct, then we might be finding out more about this long speculated project sooner than we thought.
