John Carpenter is returning to the Halloween franchise!

John Carpenter, the father of the Halloween franchise is set to make a return to the franchise that blew the doors off the slasher genre back in 1978. News is that he will be an Executive Producer on the 10th Halloween sequel, which does not have a release date yet, but the rumor is the October 2017 is around the time that we should be expecting the return of Michael Myers.

John Carpenter is a legendary director. He has crafted some of the greatest films of the 20th century. He has been sadly absent from the film making arena for many years now, so hearing that he will be making a return in any capacity is good news!

John Carpenter started his career with a little film called “Dark Star” back in 1974 while still in film school. He and Dan O’Bannon (another legend in his own right) worked together to bring what they referred to as “a great looking student film, and a terrible looking feature film”. Dark Star has become a cult classic, and regardless of what you may think of the film, it launched the careers of two of the most prolific film makers of the 20th century.

Carpenter went on to write and direct the fantastic, gritty, urban thriller “Assault on Precinct 13” after “Dark Star” in 1976. But, it was Halloween that truly made John Carpenter a force to be reckoned with. Halloween is considered to be one of the films that made the “Slasher” genre a viable money making machine for Hollywood, and after Jamie Lee Curtis’ first battle with the silent, masked killer who has become a horror icon; Carpenter went on to make some of the most memorable films of the century.

These are just some of the films that John Carpenter made in his long career. Some of his films rank up there as some of my favorite of all time! Each on has its own cult following with fans from around the globe. (Btw, I threw this together in MS Paint in like 10 mins, no specific order. I did it so you guys had an idea of the kind of films this man has made over the years.)

The new Halloween film is being brought to the screen by Blumhouse Productions, Miramax, and Trancas International. Blumhouse Productions is the same company that brought us films like Paranormal Activity, The Purge, Sinister, and Insidious. The group is apparently also trying to get Carpenter to do the score for the newest entry in the series. Which, if it were to happen would be fantastic, as John Carpenter was the creator of the timeless theme song to Halloween that we all know and love. Carpenter has also scored the themes and music for many of his films in the past, and has created songs that live on as some of the most memorable film scores ever to grace the silver screen.

Hopefully, having Carpenter on as an Executive Producer for the film will give us a better Halloween outing than we have seen in the more recent films of the franchise. While there is still no information on what this film’s story will be about, one can only hope that it will be something new and interesting, and not just a retread of everything we have already seen in past installments.
